Mai's Closet Couture will join downtown'southward wear store line-up when it opens this month, at 35 N. Master St.

Owner Myisha Dark-green's knack for fashion began at an early age. Growing upwards "not and then well off," she wanted to dress like her classmates, just didn't always have the same resource.

"When yous're coming upward in school, like my mom likes to say, everyone wants to be like the Jones … but non everyone has the Jones money," Greenish said.

In 2012, Green moved to Fond du Lac and built her background in cosmetology as she worked at diverse salons including Groovy Clips and Toll Cutters. Originally, she dreamed of opening a dazzler salon in the city, but seeing there were several in the area already, she changed her focus to market she saw lacking options: a vesture store where anybody could find something to fit them.

She first opened her business online in March, and while business concern was successful, she said, she didn't find enough people recognizing it. She saw an opportunity to open a pop-up shop in the metropolis for a few weeks, but while making calls, a more than permanent location at 35 North. Main St. presented itself.

In the downtown spot, she saw possibility. With high foot-traffic to the expanse, and the opening of multiple new businesses, including the Hotel Retlaw, she believed her store would fit well in the mural and give another reason for people to come to Main Street. Her decision was fabricated: it was time to take Mai'due south Cupboard Couture from online to long-term brick and mortar.

For the past few weeks, Green has poured herself into readying the space, working forenoon to night to paint walls and rip out floorboards, she said.When the store opens for a soft opening Friday and its thousand opening in a couple weeks, customers will see the results.

Providing "top-notch" client service is important to Green, and she welcomes feedback from shoppers on what they would like to meet in-shop, so she can cater to their needs.

"I am very customer-driven," she said. "I'll work with you and brand that happen."

Playing on the lesson she learned growing up, the shop'due south motto is: "article of clothing anything, it is possible." In this spirit, Green will stock racks with clothing in multiple styles to fit a range of tastes and mix of generations. A variety of vendors will provide garments, although customers shouldn't await to see popular brand names, like Hashemite kingdom of jordan or Adidas. Instead, Green's goal is to provide clothes that are not merely affordable, only tin't be found in mass quantities throughout the city.

"Anything I deport, y'all're not going to come across anybody around Fond du Lac carrying," she said. "You'll always find something you won't run across everyone wearing."
